There’s Healing in The Gospel

This took place in the year 2005. While sleeping, I awoke with a very sharp pain in my hand. The thumb on my right hand had dislocated at the middle knuckle. The associated crack was so loud that it woke my wife. I was unable to bend or straighten my thumb. It was obviously quite painful.

I did not injure my hand. At no time did I do anything that would cause this to occur. I knew immediately that I was dealing with a spirit. I simply woke with this condition. As time went on, my thumb worsened. My thumb had literally locked itself into an obviously distorted position. The only way that it would bend was for me to take it with my other hand and physically move it. It was painful to do that, so I wasn’t too willing to do this. I am right handed. Not having the ability to use my hand was a very large hindrance. My work is quite physical and requires the full use of both hands. Occasionally my thumb would bend or lock without any effort by me. It would simply move as though someone had taken it and twisted it. I knew that it was a spirit doing this to me. This was always very painful.

At one point, while working on a sign for a chiropractic doctor, I asked him about my thumb. He said that it was one of several possibilities. He would need to do x-rays and therapy to determine what it was. He also said that he might not be able to actually help me. It was apparent that he would be no help to me.

As time went on, I continued to pray. I knew that my only hope was to rely on the Gospel. Jesus bore our iniquities and pains. Isaiah 53:5 says that with his stripes we are healed. Healing has manifested in my life several times before this. He had already healed me when Jesus was raised from the dead. I, like you, just have to believe that. We cannot let that salvation slip. Isaiah says that "with" his stripes were are healed. When Jesus was raised from the dead and God healed his stripes, He healed us at the same time. That is why it says WITH.

This lasted for 4 months. I cannot tell you that there was some miraculous event that caused my healing to manifest. There was no one moment when everything changed. At one point, I realized that I was able to actually bend my thumb. There was still a small amount of popping, but it bent. That was a major change. I continued to thank God that with the stripes of Jesus I was healed. My thumb continued to improve. I was now able to not only bend it, but to also use it. I was getting back strength in my thumb.

It took about another month or two but I realized at one point that my thumb had completely healed. I have total mobility and have completely regained strength in my hand. There is no pain when I use it. I was always told that I had a strong grip. That was partly due to my large hands. I now have the same strength that I had before the injury.

There is healing in the Gospel. God’s not waiting to heal us. He already did it. We have to believe that. Rely on the Gospel. Believe until it manifests. In Galatians 2:21 it says that we can frustrate the grace of God. We frustrate it when we don’t believe the Gospel and put ourselves back under the law.

I thank God for the Gospel and His grace to believe it.
