Marriage is Honourable in All I grew up in middle class, protestant, Midwestern America. We were a religious community. From my elementary years on, though not so much my parents, the community taught young ladies that sex was a “bad thing”, it was sin, and only bad girls “did it”. If you were a girl that participated in sex there were a whole list of names they had for you. When I was a freshman in High School one of our friends disappeared, was moved to another state, because she had gotten pregnant and her parents were ashamed. The community’s intentions may have been good, but the spirit they ministered was not. I found this teaching produced two things. The first, Romans 7 talks about, that when you are taught “thou shall not”, it produces “thou surely will”, and there were a number of girls in my high school that became pregnant before they graduated. The other problem it produced was the one I ran into. I could not understand how something that was “bad” for so many years was now “good” and to be enjoyed. I called it a subtle resistance; my husband did not call it subtle. My heart though enjoying time with my husband was not at peace like I knew it should be. Then one evening sitting in the congregation, listening to Doyle as he was reading by the spirit, he spoke this verse; Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: (Hebrews 13:4) (undefiled: pure and free from physical or moral pollution) I sat up straight. This was something I never considered. I must have read that verse dozens of times, but until the spirit of God reveals it to your heart it won’t work in you. Doyle continued reading, but I could not get past this verse. It began speaking to my heart. I went home and read it again and the Lord started ministering to me. He led me to some other verses in the bible. Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also? (Genesis 18:12) You know, after reading this verse, I didn’t trust the word “pleasure” so I looked it up in the concordance. It means just what it says….pleasure. Sarah considered what went on between her and Abraham as pleasure. And it came
to pass, when he had been there a long time, that Abimelech king of the
Philistines looked out at a window, and saw, and, behold, Isaac was sporting (Strong’s:
to sport, play, make sport, toy with, make a toy of)
with Rebekah his wife.
(Genesis 26:8) And then God led me to Esther 2; 12 Now when every maid's turn was come to go in to king Ahasuerus, after that she had been twelve months, according to the manner of the women, (for so were the days of their purifications accomplished, to wit, six months with oil of myrrh, and six months with sweet odours, and with other things for the purifying of the women;) 13 Then thus came every maiden unto the king; whatsoever she desired was given her to go with her out of the house of the women unto the king's house. 14 In the evening she went, and on the morrow she returned into the second house of the women, to the custody of Shaashgaz, the king's chamberlain, which kept the concubines: she came in unto the king no more, except the king delighted in her, and that she were called by name. 15 Now when the turn of Esther, the daughter of Abihail the uncle of Mordecai, who had taken her for his daughter, was come to go in unto the king, she required nothing but what Hegai the king's chamberlain, the keeper of the women, appointed. And Esther obtained favour in the sight of all them that looked upon her. Notice the wisdom of God in Ester. She only required what Hegai the king’s chamberlain suggested. Hegai knew what the king liked, and her job was to please the king. 16 So Esther was taken unto king Ahasuerus into his house royal in the tenth month, which is the month Tebeth, in the seventh year of his reign. 17 And the king loved Esther above all the women, and she obtained grace and favour in his sight more than all the virgins; so that he set the royal crown upon her head, and made her queen instead of Vashti. Ester must have done something right, because King Ahasuerus made her queen. God had ordained that she spend the night with the king, please him and become queen. Now I would like to show you what Jesus says about this in Matthew 19:4; 4 Have you not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, 5 And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife” and they twain shall be one flesh? Wives, have you ever wondered why you were made a female? It says it right here… “for this cause.” As I meditated on these verses the truth of God’s word began to replace the lies that were in my heart. That’s what Roman’s 3 teaches us; “the truth of God hath more abounded through my lie unto his glory.” As that happened God began delivering me from the witchcraft that taught me those lies in the first place. I believe if you have the same problem, if you will meditate on these verses, God will deliver you also. You may email Kathie Small at Kathie3@jacksmall.com Copyright © 1999-2007 Jack Small
