Faith to Faith

It had come time that we needed another vehicle for me.  The one I was driving was on its last legs.  To be honest I was excited, going to the car lots and picking out another car, but when Jack and I prayed about it, it came into our spirit not to obtain a loan for a car, but to believe God for the money and pay cash.  Now one would think God telling you to believe him for the money would just excite one to no end, but I knew where my faith was.

Romans 1:17 tells me,

For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, the just shall live by faith.

I knew where our faith had been proven up to this point.  I knew we had seen the power of God bring in what money we needed.  But I also knew it had not yet reached the level of buying a new car. I knew we were nowhere close.  But Jack and I knew what God wanted, we believed to pay cash.

It wasn’t but a few days later my father called from Pennsylvania.  He told me that he had just bought a new car and was going to sell the minivan he had been driving.  It was a late model Dodge; I had ridden in it several times on our visits to his home.  He told me how much he wanted and I knew that was what God wanted us to do.  We already had most of the money, the rest we would send to him in a couple of weeks.  Jack and my son, Evan, flew to Pennsylvania to pick it up and drive it back to Texas. The trip even gave my husband some time to spend with his father.

The minivan was clean and the engine was in good shape, but it already had a hundred thousand miles on it.  It took some humility for me to take the car.  We could have easily gone and purchased a new vehicle with a loan, but I knew we were doing what God wanted.  I believe He used this to prove us; were we going to do this His way or the way of the world?

I drove the van for two years.  I thanked God every time I would think of it, or when someone would comment about it.  I thanked God that we had at least the amount of faith it took to purchase it with cash.  I gave thanks that our walk was from faith to faith and I expected the next one to be worth more.

After the two years, it came into Jack’s heart it was time to start looking for another car for me.  We decided we were not going to go backwards, but believe for the money and pay cash for this one also.  By this time we had grown in faith and had even more experience in walking in the power of God.  I set my heart to believe the next vehicle would be worth ten times the price of the one I was driving now.

A couple of months later, Jack’s business received a large order and the cash came in, but it was not the full amount I was believing for, it was several thousand short.  Jack spent some time going to the different car lots and looking around.  One evening he came to pick me up to look at the vehicle he believed was the right one.  We knew the salespeople at this company; we had been making signs for them for years.  They gave us a good price.  The van was not new, but a luxury model a few years old. It was “loaded”.  It had everything a woman could want, leather heated seats, automatic door, grocery compartment, cup holders, VCR and buttons everywhere!  Jack wrote the check and the vehicle was ours.  But I have to confess, I was a little disappointed.  We did not pay ten times the price of what the previous van was bought for.  But later that evening, out of curiosity, Jack looked up on the internet what this particular van was worth on the market.  When he showed me, I was humbled.  The value of the van was actually several thousand more than ten times the price of the older van. God had done what I was believing for and more.

 Ephesians 3:20, 21

Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.
