Jesus, the man...
In the catholic church, never ask anyone to explain the trinity to you.
It will start with a confused look, a pause, and then an extended explanation
how God is one, and three, but only one, yet three at the same time ,and how He
is three but still only one etc.. There is surely a spirit of confusion in
the catholic church and it becomes obvious as soon as you listen to what a
catholic says. You might wonder why I started with the trinity when the
title is about Jesus. The trinity includes the Father, Son, and Holy
Ghost. The Catholics believe that they are all one and all are God, so
Jesus is also the Father and the Father is also Jesus.
Catholics believe that when Jesus came to earth, He was the Father on earth.
They do NOT believe the He was a man and they become fairly irate if you imply
that. Jesus was able to do miracles on earth because He was God.
Jesus could do whatever He wanted to do, whenever He wanted to. He didn't
need any help because after all, He was God and as part of the trinity, had all
the power He needed. The miracles that He did were because He was God,
because a man could not do what He did.
I have often said that God moved me to Texas to hear the Gospel because no
one in Pennsylvania had a revelation of the Gospel. God had me go to the
Water of Life Bible school and arranged that I would be able to attend both
years. The second year was held during the day and for me to attend while
still working in the restaurant business is a testimony itself. It was
during the second year, that Doyle taught that Jesus was a man. While in
this class, I was considering what Doyle was saying and thought about how Jesus
was a man like Doyle. As I considered that, God corrected me. He
told me "no, just like you" (meaning me). God told me that Jesus was a
man, just like me. That made the comparison much more personal. That
meant that when the bible says that we are to walk like Jesus, we are able to do
just that.
1 John 2:6
He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he
walked.
This verse gives us very specific instructions, yet this was never
mentioned in the Catholic church. Another thing that was never mentioned
is that we need to be born again. When we are born again, we receive the
Spirit of Jesus.
1 Corinthians 6:17
But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.
That one Spirit is the Spirit of Jesus. It is His Spirit in us that
we are to walk in. When God gives us a revelation of His Son, we can begin
to also become a son of God. It is the Spirit of Jesus that causes us to
walk in the Gospel. It is the Spirit of Jesus that worships the Father in
us allowing us to triumph in His praises. We cannot obey God without
receiving the Spirit of Jesus.
One thing that a catholic stumbles on is that Jesus could not do anything
on His own.
John 5:30
I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge:
and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the
Father which hath sent me.
In this verse we see that Jesus said that he could do nothing on His own.
That means that He could not walk on water, change water to wine, heal the sick,
multiply the fishes and any other miracle on His own.
John 5:17
But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto,
and I work.
When the Father would work, He would show Jesus what to do. Jesus
didn't just decide that he wanted to go cast out devils or raise someone from
the dead. Verse 30 says that He did not seek His own will, but the
Fathers. We are not to seek our own will either. Jesus is our head
and He is to lead us.
Jesus in Matthew 26 tells us that if He prayed (obviously in faith) that
God would give Him twelve legions of angels. He did NOT say that
when He prayed that He would bring the angels. Even here He showed
that He would have to rely on the Father.
Matthew 26:53
Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father,
and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?
God would lead Jesus to heal people or forgive sins and the scribes could
not understand how a man could do that.
Mark 2:6-8
vs. 6 But there
was certain of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts,
vs. 7 Why doth
this man thus speak blasphemies? who can forgive sins but God
only?
vs. 8 And
immediately when Jesus perceived in his spirit that they so reasoned
within themselves, he said unto them, Why reason ye these things in your
hearts?
And in Matthew we see:
Matthew 26:53
Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father,
and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?
If you look at the above verse, you will see that Jesus did NOT say that
He would command the legions of angels to fight for Him. He said that he
would pray and the Father would do it.
Mark 6:41
And when he had taken the five loaves and the two fishes, he looked up to
heaven, and blessed, and brake the loaves, and gave them to his disciples to set
before them; and the two fishes divided he among them all.
Jesus did not multiply the loaves and fishes on His own. When He
looked up to heaven and blessed the loaves and fishes, the Father worked that
miracle through Jesus and multiplied the loaves and
fishes.
Can you believe that Jesus was tempted in every way? He also
had to overcome temptations. The psalms say that Jesus humbled His soul
with fasting. He was an example for us in how we can overcome temptation.
Hebrews 4:15
For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of
our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
Jesus looked like any other man. He didn't float around on a cloud.
The people knew Him as Joseph's son.
Luke 4:22
And all bare him witness, and wondered at the gracious words which
proceeded out of his mouth. And they said, Is not this Joseph's son.
John the Baptist, Jesus' cousin knew He was a man:
John 3:27
John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him
from heaven.
When Peter was questioned about whether he knew Jesus, Peter said;
Matthew 26:72
And again he denied with an oath, I do not know the man.
Pilate considered Jesus to be nothing more than a man. He said so
when he presented Him to the Jews.
John 19:5
Then came Jesus forth, wearing the crown of thorns, and the purple robe.
And Pilate saith unto them, Behold the man!
Pilate also said:
Luke 23:4
Then said Pilate to the chief priests and to the people, I find no fault in
this man.
Even the centurion who witnessed Jesus' crucifixion knew He was a man.
Mark 15:39
And when the centurion, which stood over against him, saw that he so cried
out, and gave up the ghost, he said, Truly this man was the Son of God.
If we look in Psalm 16 we will see that Jesus had to believe God to come
out of Hell. Verse 10 says that the Father would not leave His soul in
Hell nor allow Jesus to see corruption. Jesus could not come out on His
own.
Psalm 16:10
For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine
Holy One to see corruption.
Religion teaches us the Jesus was not a man but instead an all powerful
spiritual being. That spirit of witchcraft has ministered doubt and
unbelief to all. Religion has insured that those it speaks to will never
obey God.
Jesus told us to repent and believe the Gospel. By trusting
in the power of God and walking in obedience, we will walk as Jesus walked.
